Anthony Rae Foundation  This eponymous foundation, to  support environmental research and campaigning actvity particularly in the areas of Climate Change and Biodiversity, started operation in August 2009.  The first year's programme of donations has completed and can be read about here

Environmental activity

I am an elected Board member of Friends of the Earth  (England, Wales & Northern Ireland) for the period 2002-05, re-elected 2005-08 and 2008-11 (for the 3rd and last time).  The constituency combines the North East and Yorkshire & the Humber planning regions.

I am a member of the FOE Board Campaigns (previously Strategy & Performance) committee, and Chair from October 2005; and of the Engagement (previously Activism) Committee;  and member of the Board Governance Review 2004-5.  Also a member of the FOE regional partnerships for the North East and Yorkshire & the Humber; and coordinator of Calderdale  Friends of the Earth.

Other environmental work I undertake: Calderdale Sustainability Forum/ Calder Future/ Calderdale Climate Change Partnership/ Calderdale Waste Partnership.  I represent the environment sector on Calderdale Forward, the local strategic partnership.

Transport activity

The range of transport work I'm undertaking at present.  I was re-appointed the Environmental Sector representative on the Y&H  Regional Transport Board in June 2009.

Hebden Bridge: I am spokesperson for the Garden Street Action Group, opposing a large and unnecessary development in the town's Conservation Area - rejected at Public Inquiry in May 2009.  See the website of the Action Group here 

Work experience: Prior to my present activity as an environmental 'volunteer' (1999 to date), I worked in Manchester on a variety of strategic policy, regeneration and communications work (Manchester City Council/ GMPTE 1978-98).
